Eur J Orthop Surg Traumatol. 2014 Oct;24(7):1305-9

153 patients with painful acute fracture were randomized to analgesia through either intravenous morphine sulfate or a multimodal regimen with acetaminophen and oral oxycodone. The purpose of this study was to examine pain decrease within the first hour after administration in both groups, as well as to document any adverse events. Average pain severity was significantly lower at 10 minutes after administration of morphine compared to acetaminophen/oxycodone, although no significant differences between groups were noted at 30 and 60 minutes after medication administration. Adverse events, particularly nausea and itching, were more frequently recorded in patients treated with acetaminophen/oxycodone compared to morphine.
