Weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing exercises reduces patellofemoral pain

45 male subjects with patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) were randomized to one of two exercise programs, or no treatment. One group received non-weight-bearing single-joint quadriceps exercise (SJNWBE), one group received weight-bearing multiplejoint quadriceps exercise (MJWBE), and the last group received no exercise prescription. Results showed that both the SJNWBE and MJWBE groups had statistically significant improvements in pain, strength and functionality compared to the control (no exercise) group at 6 weeks.
