Outcomes after external fixation vs. volar plating for displaced intra-articular DRF

One hundred and ten patients with a displaced intra-articular distal radius fracture and undergoing surgery were randomized to internal fixation with a volar locking plate, or to external pin fixation. The purpose of this study was to compare clinical outcomes between the two types of fixation. Follow-up was performed at 6 and 12 months postoperatively. By 12 months, results in the external fixation group were favorable to those attained by the volar locking plate group.
