Platelet-rich plasma does not improve outcomes of total knee arthroplasty
J Arthroplasty. 2014 Dec;29(12):2337-41.

40 patients undergoing unilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to either an intervention group, which received intraoperative platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in gel form, or a control group, which did not receive intraoperative PRP. This trial was undertaken to assess the effects of PRP on postoperative outcomes of TKA. Patients were assessed for blood loss, knee range of motion, swelling around the knee joint, muscle power recovery, and pain up to 1 month postoperatively. Their Knee Society Scores and Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score were also evaluated during the same time frame. There were no significant differences between groups in the findings of the study.
