Epinephrine irrigation in shoulder arthroscopy improves surgeon-rated visualization

83 patients scheduled for shoulder arthroscopy were randomized to either standard irrigation fluid or irrigation fluid with the addition of epinephrine for visualization purposes during their procedure. A visual analog scale was used to measure the visualization of the surgeon. Results indicated that the group of patients in which irrigation fluid which contained epinephrine was used obtained significantly higher visualization scores. Results showed no significant difference between further measures such as need to increase irrigation pump pressure, or mean arterial pressure.
