50 patients scheduled for total hip arthroplasty was randomized to one of two groups: subchondral bone plate removal (minimum 75% resection), or subchondral bone plate retention. The purpose of this study was to radiographically assess and compare the survivorship, stability, and migration of the acetabular cup over 10-year follow-up between the two groups. Overall, subchondral bone plate removal was associated with a lower incidence of radiolucent lines when compared to subchondral bone plate retention.
