13 randomized or cluster-randomized controlled trials were included in this meta-analysis investigating the efficacy of fall prevention programs in nursing home residents. More specifically, this study sought to individually characterize the effects of single, multiple, and mutlifactorial interventions. The results demonstrated a significant reduction in the number of falls and recurrent fallers with multifactorial intervention programs, though no effect on total number of fallers. A multiple intervention program did not demonstrate any significant benefit in fall, fallers, or recurrent fallers, and single interventions related to training and education were associated with a significantly greater incidence of falls.
