40 patients with primary adhesive capsulitis were randomized to receive extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) or oral prednisolone. This study was performed to determine whether ESWT improved functional outcome when compared to steroid treatment. The Constant shoulder score (CSS) and the Oxford shoulder score (OSS) were used to assess outcome. Results indicated that both treatment options led to significant improvements in both measures, however, the ESWT was reported to experience earlier and greater improvement in outcome scores.
