Injury. 2015 Mar;46(3):484-91.
Contributing Authors

GP Slobogean SA Sprague T Scott M Bhandari

41 studies were pooled in this meta-analysis to evaluate the incidences of patient-important complications following internal fixation for femoral fractures in a non-geriatric population. This study aimed to quantify the rate of adverse events such as reoperation, nonunion, malunion, avascular necrosis, and infection, among patients with femoral neck fractures. Analyses were performed in isolated femoral neck fractures, displaced and undisplaced fractures, and patients with femoral neck and ipsilateral shaft fractures. The results of this meta-analysis found a high incidence of patient morbidity, particularly in patients with displaced fractures. Incidences of complications were lower patients with femoral neck fracture and ipsilateral shaft injury.
