Better hip function and quality of life with hemiarthroplasty for femoral neck fracture
BMJ. 2007 Dec 15;335(7632):1251-4. Epub 2007 Dec 4.222 patients (165 women) with displaced intracapsular femoral neck fracture were randomized to receive one of two surgical procedures. 112 patients received the closed reduction and two parallel screws procedure, while 110 patients received the bipolar cemented hemiarthroplasty. Results demonstrated that hemiarthroplasty produced better functional outcomes and better ratings of health-related quality of life compared to patients that underwent the internal fixation procedure.
