Eleven studies (9 randomized controlled trials and 2 prospective cohort studies) were included in this systematic review to examine the effects of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on outcomes following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. When considering the effect of PRP on ACL graft maturation, four of seven studies which assessed outcomes associated with graft maturation reported a significant benefit in PRP-treated groups. Qualitative analyses of tunnel healing and outcomes from clinical examination, however, demonstrated a limited effect of PRP. The results from this study should be interpreted with caution as heterogeneity among trials prevented data synthesis.
