2 randomized control trials (RCTs) and 19 observational studies comparing minimally invasive and open transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) for the treatment degenerative lumbar disease (DLD) in terms of safety and efficacy were included in this meta-analysis. Findings determined reduced blood loss, infection, hospital stay and pain with the use of the minimally invasive (MI) technique procedure in comparison to the open (O) method. Results concerning operation duration, complications, and dural tears were comparable between the two groups.
