COA 2015: Femoral nerve block reduces pain yet increases patient falls in arthroscopy

50 patients undergoing hip arthroscopy were randomized to receive either preoperative femoral nerve block or saline treatment to determine the benefits of femoral nerve block after 24 hours in terms of opioid consumption. Results indicated that femoral nerve block lead to less pain in the early post-operative period without altering opioid consumption or adverse events. However, femoral nerve block lead to more patient falls, warranting careful consideration of this protocol.
