Gait Posture. 2015 Jun;42(1):1-6

30 healthy volunteers were randomized into two groups to either receive unilateral training of the ankle dorsiflexors 4 times per week for 4 weeks, or no intervention. The purpose of the study was to determine if the cross-training effect was present in ankle dorsiflexors of the contralateral, untrained ankle dorsiflexors in terms of peak torque and muscle work, as compared to no training. The results of the study indicated that peak torque and maximal work increased significantly in both the untrained and trained legs in cross-trained volunteers, to a significantly greater degree than that observed in the control group, which demonstrated no significant changes. Within the cross-trained group, the percent increases in peak torque and maximal work of the untrained limb were greater than that of the trained limb.
