No reduction in surgery rates with examining MRI reports prior to knee arthroscopy
Arthroscopy. 2007 Nov;23(11):1167-1173.e1

252 patients on a waiting list for knee arthroscopy had a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan and were randomized to one of two groups. The first group had their MRI report seen by the surgeons before surgery while the second group did not. The primary outcome was the proportion of patients that did not proceed with arthroscopy. Results indicated there was no reduction in surgery rates whether the MRI reports were seen or not seen by the surgeon prior to surgery. No significant differences were seen in the secondary outcomes between the two groups.
