Effect of local infiltration analgesia vs placebo on pain and opioid consumption in TKA
Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2015 Jul;23(7):1956-63.

7 randomized trials comparing the use of local infiltration analgesia (LIA) versus placebo in total knee arthroplasty were included in this meta-analysis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate pain scores and opioid consumption over the first 2 days postoperatively. Pooled analyses demonstrated significantly lower pain and opioid consumption among LIA-treated groups compared to placebo-treated groups at 24 hours postoperatively, but not at 48 hours. Heterogeneity in LIA protocols limit the results of the current analysis.
