40 patients with ACL tear undergoing surgical reconstruction were randomized to either receive bioabsorbable (poly-L-lactic acid with hydroxyapatite) or metallic interference screws for femoral and tibial fixation. The purpose of the study was to compare tunnel volume between the two groups after 2 and 5 years. Secondary outcomes included periscrew ossification, screw resorption, cyst formation and clinical outcomes. The results indicated no significant difference between groups in terms of tunnel volume at 5 years. Also, there was no significant difference noted in the clinical outcomes at 5 years.
