ARTHROPLASTY
Computer assisted TKA results in trainee and experienced surgeons
J Arthroplasty. 2015 Aug;30(8):1344-7.

92 patients undergoing primary total knee arthroplasty for arthritis of the knee were randomized to surgery either under an experienced surgeon or trainee surgeons, both using computer assisted surgery methods. The purpose of the study was to compare 5 year clinical outcomes after total knee arthroplasty between the experienced and trainee surgeon groups, to determine the efficacy of computer navigation. Results indicated that patients treated by trainee surgeons using computer assisted techniques did not display differences in knee scores, coronal alignment, or blood loss. The only difference noted was a significantly shorter tourniquet time in the group treated by the experienced surgeon.
