Mutimodal approach with periarticular injection improves pain control and function

131 patients (n=71 THA, n=60 TKA) were randomized to either receive treatment according to a multi-modal protocol with periarticular injection or patient-controlled analgesia. The results indicate that multi-modal pain control with periarticular injection is effective in improving post-operative pain and patient satisfaction in patients that have undergone total hip arthroplasty. Both cohorts demonstrated lower narcotics usage and better functional recovery in the multi-modal pain control groups.
