124 patients undergoing cemented total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive either tranexamic acid (1.5g or 3.0g) or placebo saline solution, applied topically to the knee right at the end of surgery with an aim to determine the reduction of postoperative blood loss. It was observed that the treatment with tranexamic acid reduced postoperative blood loss.
