Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2015 Nov;23(11):3337-42

48 patients undergoing total knee replacement (TKR) revision surgery were randomly assigned to either receive or not receive a thrombin-based topical haemostatic agent (Floseal haemostatic matrix) for the management of postoperative blood loss. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of Floseal on blood loss and the need for blood transfusion to a control group over the first 7 postoperative days. The results of this study found that the use of Floseal significantly reduced the need for blood transfusion compared to the control group while having no statistically significant effect on intraoperative blood loss, adverse events or haemoglobin and hematocrit levels.
