ARTHROPLASTY
Efficacy of pregabalin for immediate postoperative pain and opioid consumption after THA
Br J Anaesth. 2015 Dec;115(6):903-11

184 patients scheduled for total hip arthroplasty were randomized to receive a predetermined perioperative analgesic regimen (spinal anesthesia and celecoxib) with or without the addition of pregabalin. The purpose of this study was to analyze the benefits of pregabalin when compared to a placebo in terms of pain, function and postoperative opioid consumption. The results of this study demonstrated that although there was no significant difference between groups in physical function or pain outcomes three months postoperatively, patients who received pregabalin had fewer postoperative analgesic requirements and significantly lower daily pain scores and opioid consumption during the week after hospital discharge.
