40 patients with wrist fractures were treated with antiosteoporotic therapy (calcium and vitamin D) with or without the addition of strontium ranelate. The purpose of this study was the investigate the proposed clinical advantages and increased functional recovery of the addition of strontium ranelate by recording bone callus formation, cortical continuity, and permanence of fracture gap (via ultrasonographic confirmation). Results demonstrated that the addition of strontium ranelate provided no advantageous clinical or functional recovery benefits as evidenced by comparable outcome measures to the control group.
