AAOS 2016: Similar rates of nonunion with acetaminophen/NSAIDs in humeral shaft fractures

400 patients with humeral shaft fractures who were treated with conservative methods were included in this study and randomized to receive either ibuprofen or acetaminophen to determine their effects on rate of non-unions. Although comparable levels of non-union were found between groups, an association between increasing dosage and duration of treatment with rates of non and delayed union was identified in a subgroup analysis. Clinical outcomes were also comparable between groups.
