83 patients with olecranon bursitis without the present of infection were included in the study and randomized to undergo treatment with aspiration alone, aspiration in combination with a steroid injection, or simply observation. The study was conducted in order to determine which of the three treatment techniques yielded greater satisfaction, pain, and rates of resolution. Resolution rates were found to significantly favour the aspiration with steroid injection group, while treatment failure was observed most often in the aspiration alone group.
