AAOS 2016: Formal physical therapy versus home exercises after THA yield similar outcomes
77 patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty (THA) were randomized to either formal outpatient physical therapy (Group I) or a patient-directed home-based exercise program (Group II). The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of formal outpatient physical therapy in regards to functional outcomes. Findings indicated non-significant differences between Group I and Group II in Harris Hip Scores, WOMAC, or SF-36 at one month and six months follow-up.
