AAOS 2016: Interim evaluation of tranexamic acid vs placebo in acetabular fracture surgery
43 patients with acetabular fracture undergoing surgical fixation were randomized to be administered either tranexamic acid or placebo. The purpose of this interim analysis was to compare groups based on transfusion rate. Results demonstrated an overall incidence of transfusion of 18/43, with no significant differences between groups. Based on the results, the authors have revised the power calculation to 170 patients to investigate the efficacy of TXA in high-risk patients, specifically.
