AAOS 2016: TXA vs. epsilon-aminocaproic acid provide comparable outcomes after TKA

140 patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to be administered either tranexamic acid or epsilon-aminocaproic acid. The purpose of this study was to compare the antifibrolytic effects of the two drugs after total knee arthroplasty. Findings indicated no significant differences in transfusion rates, drop in haemoglobin (Hb) levels, serum creatinine change, and postoperative renal, thrombotic, and bleeding events.
