Int Orthop. 2016 Feb;40(2):225-314 studies (n=588) with patients undergoing total knee or hip arthroplasty were included in the present analysis. Studies included patients randomized to undergo wound closure with either barbed or conventional sutures in order to determine if barbed sutures were able to improve surgical outcomes without compromising safety.
