Patients were randomized to receive low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) or sham treatment to evaluate the effect of LIPUS on time to union and functional outcomes. The results of this trial over a one year period indicated that there were no differences between LIPUS and sham-treated patients in the time to union. Additionally, there were no differences in functional outcomes between the two groups.
