Methylsulfonylmethane and boswellic acids similar to glucosamine sulfate in knee OA
Int J Immunopathol Pharmacol. 2016 Mar;29(1):140-6

120 patients with K-L grade III knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive either glucosamine sulfate or a combination of methylsulfonylmethane and boswellic acids. The purpose of the study was to determine if the dual agent treatment was superior to the routinely used glucosamine sulfate in terms of pain and function outcomes. The findings of this study displayed comparable pain intensity, consumption of pain medication, and Lequesne Index scores between groups. Further trials that utilize patient and assessor blinding are needed to evaluate this combination treatment in comparison to both active comparators and a placebo treatment.
