OSTEOARTHRITIS
OARSI 2016: Facilitators/barriers to exercise in older patients with knee OA
Contributing Authors

NE Foster AJ Moore MA Holden

30 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee were included in the study and randomized to one of three groups: individually tailored exercise group, targeted exercise adherence group, and usual physiotherapy care group. The study was conducted in order to assess the feasibility of the interventions as well as their impact on general physical activity and exercise behavior. It was found that regardless of the varying levels of supervision, progression, and individualization associated with each treatment, factors that patients identified as barriers or facilitators to exercise remained similar. Patient recommendations concerning improving interventions included: longer protocol duration, varying delivery techniques, and more frequent reviews.
