107 patients with osteoarthritis of the hip were randomized to receive either an intramuscular (IM) corticosteroid injection (gluteal) or placebo injection for the purpose of determining if an intramuscular corticosteroid injection was associated with significantly improved pain, function, and stiffness after a 12-week follow-up period. Results demonstrated that NRS pain, WOMAC pain, stiffness, function, and ICOAP score significantly favored patients who received corticosteroid injection while demonstrating comparable rates of adverse events and co-intervention medication throughout the study duration.
