Comparison of topical and intravenous tranexamic acid in total hip arthroplasty
J Arthroplasty. 2016 May;31(5):1022-6139 patients scheduled for primary unilateral total hip arthroplasty were randomized to administration of either topical tranexamic acid (TXA) or intravenous tranexamic acid. Groups were compared regarding total calculated blood loss, hemoglobin drop, incidence of transfusion, and development of thromboembolic complications. Despite significantly greater blood loss and hemoglobin drop in the topical TXA group, groups did not significantly differ in the incidence of transfusion.
