Open versus microendoscopic discectomy for patients with lumbar disc herniation
Eur Spine J. 2016 May;25(5):1373-815 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with a total of 501 patients were included in this meta-analysis to compare microendoscopic discectomy and open discectomy techniques in patients with lumbar disc herniation. Findings indicated no significant differences in visual analogue scale (VAS) pain and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores between discectomy methods. Microendoscopic discectomy was associated with less blood loss and shorter hospital stays but longer operative time compared to open discectomy.
