90 patients with a lateral ankle sprain injury were randomized to one of three rehabilitation groups following short-term immobilization: (1) Wii-Fit exercises, (2) conventional physical therapy, and (3) no physical therapy. The purpose of this study was to determine if a 6-week Wii Fit exercise protocol led to a significantly greater improvement in physical function, pain, return to activity, and patient satisfaction/perceived efficacy when compared to conventional physical therapy or no therapy at all. Results demonstrated that when measured at 6 weeks, differences between all groups for FAAS function, activities of daily life, sport activity subscores, VAS pains scores, and delay to return to sport activity, and patient satisfaction with allocated treatment were not significant.
