Eleven randomized controlled trials were included in this meta-analysis analyzing the efficacy of gabapentin and pregabalin for postoperative analgesia following total knee arthroplasty. The control groups used for comparison in the included studies received either placebo or no additional intervention. The results of this meta-analysis demonstrated a statistically significant analgesic and opioid-sparing effect of pregabalin compared to control for up to 48 hours while no significant differences between gabapentin and control were found. Whilst statistically significant, the analgesic and opioid-sparing effects of pregabalin were minor and unlikely to be of clinical relevance
