Continuous adductor canal block vs intraarticular infiltration in total knee arthroplasty
J Arthroplasty. 2016 Sep;31(9 Suppl):298-301

96 patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty were randomized to multimodal postoperative analgesia including either a continuous adductor canal block or continuous intraarticular infiltration with bupivacaine. The purpose of this study was to compare pain, morphine equivalents consumption, knee range of motion, and patient satisfaction between groups over the first two postoperative days. With the exceptions of a significantly lower pain score prior to the first physiotherapy session on postoperative day (POD)1 in the adductor canal block group, and a significantly higher passive knee range of motion during the second physiotherapy session on POD1 in the intraarticular infiltration group, no other significant between-group differences were observed.
