Global postural re-education reduces pain and disability in chronic nonspecific neck pain
Phys Ther. 2016 Sep;96(9):1408-16. doi: 10.2522/ptj.20150501. Epub 2016 Mar 24.94 patients with chronic nonspecific neck pain were randomized to physical therapy-based treatments using global postural re-education (GPR) or manual therapy. The purpose of this trial was to determine if the global postural re-education therapy could reduce pain and disability in comparison to manual therapy when evaluated over a 6-month follow-up. Results demonstrated that the global re-education therapy significantly reduced pain and disability during the 6-month follow-up when compared to manual therapy, as well as significantly increased flexion, extension, and lateral flexion. There were no significant differences in patient satisfaction, perceived benefit, and no adverse events occurred.
