The effect of eldecalcitol on balence and strength in women with osteoporosis
J Bone Miner Metab. 2016 Sep;34(5):547-5450 women with osteoporosis were randomized to weekly alendronate plus daily eldecalcitol, or weekly alendronate alone. The purpose of this study was to assess muscle strength and balance after 6 months of treatment in both groups. The within-group evaluation noted significant changes in the alendronate plus eldecalcitol group from baseline to 6 months in iliopsoas strength, back extensor strength, the Timed Up-and-Go test, and seated balance. No significant changes were noted in the alendronate alone group in any of these outcomes. Furthermore, neither group demonstrated significant changes in the 10m walk test, the functional reach test, or static one-legged balance. Between-group comparisons were not explored.
