Hyaluronic acid versus placebo injection on POD1 following ACL reconstruction
Am J Sports Med. 2016 Oct;44(10):2572-2578

60 patients scheduled for arthroscopic ACL reconstruction were randomized to receive an injection of either hyaluronic acid or placebo on the first day following the procedure. The purpose of this study was to compare measures of pain, function, and health-related quality of life between groups over a 12-month follow-up to determine if the use of hyaluronic acid can provide benefits in this patient population. The results demonstrated no significant differences between groups in clinical or functional scores. When comparing the active range of motion and leg girth between the operative limb and the contralateral limb, significantly smaller differences were observed in the HA group compared to the placebo at 1 and 2 months, respectively.
