LIA with ropivacaine and epinephrine lowers 24-hr pain after total hip arthroplasty
Int Orthop. 2016 Nov;40(11):2255-2260

150 patients scheduled for total hip arthroplasty were randomized to multimodal analgesia either with or without the use of local infiltration analgesia (LIA). LIA consisted of ropivacaine and epinephrine. Patients were assessed using pain scores, analgesic consumption, perioperative thresholds of mobilization & getting out of bed alone, perioperative blood loss, and postoperative patient-reported outcome at 3 and 12 months. The only significant difference observed between the groups was lower pain over the first 24-hr postoperative period in the LIA group compared to control group. No other significant differences between groups were observed.
