AAOS2017: Patellofemoral arthroplasty vs TKA for patellofemoral OA

100 patients with isolated patellofemoral osteoarthritis were randomized to undergo either patellofemoral joint arthroplasty (PFA) or total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Patients were followed for a minimum of 2 years, with results related to clinical and functional outcome reported. Results demonstrated significantly greater knee range of motion for the first 24 months postoperatively, and significantly higher Oxford Knee Scores for the first 12 months postoperatively, in the PFA group compared to the TKA group.
