26 studies were included in this meta-analysis and systematic review on the use of low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) following either fracture, nonunion, or osteotomy. Results on time to union demonstrated no significant difference between LIPUS and control in studies with low risk of bias; in studies with high risk of bias, LIPUS was associated with a significantly shorter time to union. Results on functional recovery (time to full weight-bearing, time to return to work) and pain demonstrated no significant differences between LIPUS and control.
