200 patients scheduled for minimally invasive total knee arthroplasty and thromboprophylaxis with rivaroxaban were randomized to either intravenous tranexamic acid or placebo. Patients were assessed for blood loss, transfusion rate, hemoglobin levels, rates of ecchymosis, wound hematoma, and deep infection. Total blood loss was significantly lower in the TXA group compared to placebo, while no significant difference was observed in postoperative drain volume. Transfusion rate was significantly lower in the TXA group compared to the placebo group, as were the incidences of ecchymosis and hematoma.
