Lower incidence of osteolysis development with HLXPE vs. standard polyethylene over 12-yr follow-up
J Arthroplasty. 2017 Apr;32(4):1186-1191

53 patients who were scheduled for total hip arthroplasty were randomized to have the procedure completed using either a highly-crosslinked polyethylene (HXLPE) liner or a conventional, ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) liner. Patients were assessed on computed tomography for incidence and volume of osteolytic lesions over a minimum 12-year follow-up. Incidence for the development of osteolysis was significantly lower in the HXLPE group compared to the UHMWPE group.
