Lower pain and higher function over 2 years with ESWT versus placebo for chronic plantar fasciopathy
J Orthop Res. 2017 Jul;35(7):1532-153850 patients with chronic plantar fasciopathy were included in this trial to determine the long-term efficacy of radial extracorporeal shock wave treatment (ESWT). Patients were randomized to either two sessions of ESWT or to a placebo group in this double-blind trial. Patient follow-up was conducted over a two-year period using VAS pain and Roles and Maudsley scores. Pain was significantly lower in ESWT group at all follow-up time points over the two years. Similarly, Roles and Maudsley scores were significantly better in the ESWT group at all time points over the two-year follow-up.
