OTA2017: Antibiotic prophylaxis does not reduce infection rate after lower-limb implant removal

470 patients scheduled for implant removal following a foot, ankle or lower leg fracture were randomized to either a single, prophylactic dose of intravenous cephalosporin or to intravenous placebo. Patients were assessed for the incidence of postoperative wound infection. Results demonstrated no significant difference between groups in the incidence of postoperative wound infection.
