OTA2017: QoL of monoblock Thompson vs modular Exeter implants in hemiarthroplasty for hip fracture
964 patients, over the age of 60, with an intracapsular fracture of the hip and scheduled for hemiarthroplasty, were randomized to receive either a cemented, Exeter modular stem with a Unitrax femoral head, or to receive a cemented, Thompson monoblock stem. Groups were assessed for quality of life on the EQ-5D at 4 months postoperatively. No statistically significant difference between groups was observed in EQ-5D scores at 4 months, both including and excluding cases of mortality.
