OTA2017: Improved skin perfusion with Allgöwer-Donati vs vertical mattress suture in ankle ORIF
30 patients with an ankle fracture scheduled for open reduction and internal fixation were randomized to closure using either an Allgower Donati suture or a vertical mattress suture technique. Patients were assessed for postoperative incisional perfusion using laser-assisted indocyanine green angiography. Significantly higher perfusion scores were observed in the Allgower Donati group as compared to the vertical mattress group. One wound complication occurred in each group.
